Greece Breaking Records in tourist arrivals informs PM Alexis Tsipras

first_imgPrime Minister of Greece Alexis Tsipras has informed World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) Secretary General Taleb Rifai that “year by year Greece is breaking records” in terms of the number of visitors from abroad.The PM’s statement was made during a meeting he had with Rifai at the Maximos Mansion in Athens, which was also attended by Tourism Minister Elena Kountoura.Tsipras stated that 27.5 million tourists had arrived in Greece in 2016, with the country aiming to welcome over 30 million visitors in 2017.Following his meeting, Tsipras had said, “We are working so 2017 will be the third record year for Greek tourism.”Rifai was on an official visit to Athens to be the keynote speaker at a conference held to promote Greece as 365 days a year tourism destination. The conference, organised by the Tourism Ministry and the Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO), also focused on sustainable tourism development.Rifai expressed confidence in Greek tourism, referring to Greece as “one of the most popular and attractive global destinations.”last_img read more
