The Bucks traded two future second-round draft picks to the Nets as compensation. In Milwaukee, Kidd inherited a team that won 15 games in 2013-14. He was part of a fresh start for an organization that had been mired in mediocrity for years.Other than a 33-win season in 2015-16, the youthful Bucks hovered around .500 under Kidd while Antetokounmpo and Middleton developed. Malcolm Brogdon won the NBA rookie of the year award last season, and Jabari Parker has the potential to be an explosive scorer when healthy.Despite all that, Milwaukee has largely treaded water in the wide-open East, even after adding talented guard Eric Bledsoe in a trade with the Suns in November. The Bucks are 8-12 since going a season-high five games over .500 on Dec. 9.Under Kidd, Milwaukee a regular-season record of 139-152.“We didn’t lose any talent. We still have all of our guys on the floor. We still have to make the playoffs our goal,” Brogdon said. The Bucks plan to conduct a coaching search after the season. It will be an important hire for a franchise celebrating its 50th anniversary and getting ready for the opening of a new downtown arena next season.“I think Jason’s done obviously a tremendous amount for the organization. He’s a good friend, he’s a soon-to-be Hall of Fame basketball player,” Edens said in an interview before the game.“But we think this team can be the best team in the East and we want to give ourselves every chance we can to do that.” Consider Kidd’s dismissal a wake-up call for a team that had been a feel-good story in the NBA over the last couple years.“A general manager in the NHL had a statement once: ‘If something is inevitable, why wait?’” Horst said at a news conference before the game.Horst added that the decision was made “relatively quickly” and was not in the works through the season. Co-owner Wes Edens said Horst had the ownership group’s support.“We just felt that we got to a point in the season where this team could do more and could perform at a different level in a different way and (we are) looking for a fresh approach and different voice in leadership for the team,” Horst said.Kidd was one of the NBA’s most dynamic guards during his playing career and a triple-double threat in his heyday. He made the unusual jump right into coaching the year after his playing career ended, guiding the Nets to a 44-win season and a trip to the second round of the Eastern Conference playoffs in his one and only season in Brooklyn in 2013-14.ADVERTISEMENT Without Neymar, Messi and Suarez keep Barcelona thriving Steam emission over Taal’s main crater ‘steady’ for past 24 hours Almazan vows to comeback stronger after finals heartbreak Still, if and when Milwaukee does compete for NBA titles, Kidd’s influence will be clear. Antetokounmpo has become a star, and Khris Middleton has also become a standout player.Yet the Bucks are hovering around .500 and stuck in the bottom half of the Eastern Conference playoff picture. Share Facebook Twitter Google + LinkedIn Pinterest With continued dry weather, the pest we’ve been getting the most calls about is the spider mite. This is just a reminder that vigilant scouting for this pest is a good idea right now.It is also important to re-scout five days after treatment because many products will not kill the eggs, and populations can resurge. Any necessary follow-up treatment should be made with a product with a different mode of action to reduce resistance development. So, for example, if you used something with bifenthrin the first time, you might switch to Lorsban the second time, or vice versa. There are two miticides that are newly labeled for spider mite management in soybean and/or some types of corn: Agri-Mek from Sygenta and Zeal from Valent. We at OSU have not tested these products yet, but are currently running trials with both of them in northwestern Ohio.Economic thresholds based on the number of mites per plant have not been established for spider mites on soybeans. However, a scheme for evaluating an infested field based on observations of the presence of mite and feeding injury has been developed. In making an assessment of a spider mite infested field, it is important that one recognize the early signs of mite feeding, which is the stippling or speckled effect that initially appears on the foliage when foliage is still green. In addition, it is essential that one use a good hand lens to view relative abundance of mites in egg, nymph, and adult stages. The following is a system that can be used to assess a field and determine the need for taking action.Mites are barely detected on underside of leaves in dry locations or on edges of fields. Injury is barely detected. Non-economic population; do nothing.Easily detected on underside of leaves along edges of fields or perhaps on leaves in dry areas throughout field. Most foliage is still green, but yellow stippling caused by mite feeding is becoming detectable on upper side of leaves with the underside showing mite feeding. Still non-economic; warrants close monitoring. Many plants are infested when examined closely, with plants showing varying degrees of stippling. Possibly some speckling and discoloration of some of the leaves. These plants may be limited to field edges, but also might be found throughout field. Field edges might be showing signs of injury. Economic population developing; rescue treatment warranted. Consider entire field spray if mites are common throughout field. All plants in area, whether along field edge or within field, are heavily infested. Plants are discolored with wilted leaves, usually obvious from a distance. Severe injury occurring. Economic population; rescue treatment will save field.

Morton Georgia Ports Authority (GPA) has unveiled a new program that will allow the Port of Savannah to simultaneously handle six 14,000 TEU vessels by 2024.The Big Berth/Big Ship program was presented by GPA’s executive director Griff Lynch at the Georgia Foreign Trade Conference held at the Sea Island this week.“No other single container terminal in North America has the ability to expand berth capacity at this rate,” Lynch said.Currently, Savannah’s Garden City Terminal is equipped to handle two of these vessels and by April of this year that number will increase to three. As informed, the Port of Savannah had just last week achieved the busiest month ever in its history, moving 433,975 TEUs, a whopping 28 percent jump over the previous year.“A strong global economy coupled with a growing awareness of Savannah’s logistical advantages are driving sustained growth at our deepwater container terminal,” GPA Board Chairman Jimmy Allgood said.“GPA’s Big Berth/Big Ship program will ensure Georgia stays ahead of demand and ahead of the competition,” he added.Over the next five years, the authority plans to add another 21 Neo-Panamax ship-to-shore cranes, replacing 14 of its older models to bring the total fleet to 37. Dock upgrades are already underway to support the new, larger machines. In addition to the ship-to-shore cranes GPA is adding, a dozen new rubber-tired gantry cranes will bring the number Garden City Terminal’s container handling cranes to 158. Ten RTGs will be commissioned in July, another two in September. Phase I of the Mason Mega Rail project will be complete in October 2019. Full completion a year later will double the Port of Savannah’s rail lift capacity to 1 million containers per year.In late 2021, the Savannah Harbor Expansion Project is slated for completion, delivering the deeper water necessary to better accommodate the larger vessels now calling on the U.S. East Coast.Related:GPA Eyes Major Container Terminal Expansion by 2028
The Canadian PressPrime Minister Justin Trudeau is set to exonerate six First Nations chiefs who were executed by British Columbia’s colonial government more than 150 years ago.Trudeau’s itinerary says he will “deliver a statement of exoneration” for the Tsilhqot’in chiefs in the House of Commons at 3 p.m.The warriors were hanged following a deadly confrontation with white road builders during the so-called “Chilcotin War of 1864.”After the workers were killed, five chiefs arrived at what they believed would be peace talks with government representatives. Instead, they were arrested, tried and hanged, and a sixth chief was executed the following year in New Westminster. The Tsilhqot’in have long disputed the government’s authority to execute the six chiefs as criminals, describing the confrontation as an altercation between warring nations. The B.C. government apologized for the executions in 1993 and installed a commemorative plaque at the site of the hangings.Indigenous Relations Minister Carolyn Bennett is scheduled to hold a press conference alongside the Tsilhqot’in Nation leadership today in Ottawa following the official exoneration.
